I'm very excited to be offering flute lessons, both in person and online with Skype! When I was younger and just learning to play, I lived in parched, sandy Arizona, where very few folks are playing traditional Irish music. I sat in my bedroom for hours on end, listening to recordings and wondering "How in the world can someone play that?!" My best solution was to save my pennies and fly to Ireland for summer workshops at Milltown Malbay and Tubbercurry. While such opportunities are golden, they are not always budget friendly or easy to plan, and if an easier solution had been in place, I would have certainly capitalized on it. Fortunately, there is a simpler and more affordable option in 2012.
I'm now offering private, interactive, face to face tuition on Skype at a very affordable price. I now serve students ranging from Omaha, Nebraska to the Outer Hebrides in Scotland! Skype is a reliable and intuitive option for students around the globe who ask themselves the same question I used to have: How can I find a good teacher? Whether you're a beginner working on coaxing the first whispers from your instrument, or a seasoned session veteran looking to dress up your repertoire, I can help you.
Without a strong tone, a flute player is going to find themselves constantly running out of breath and having difficulty phrasing the tunes appropriately. In my classes, I focus on a variety of specific techniques to strengthen the embouchure, taking into account that everyone's physical features are different. We can find the approach that works for you to get the strong sound you want. I can offer instruction that will clarify the mysterious ornaments you've been wondering about, from the simplest rolls to the stitched bounce technique, to a graced B-C-D triplet, and even the famous crann - I'm excited about helping you save time in your quest to become a strong session player and I know you can do it! I am confident in myself and you, so I can offer two lessons, free of charge, to help you decide if the Skype format will work for you. I am happy to put you in touch with any of my current or former students if you would like a reference.
Please use the form below to inquire, and I'll get back to you quickly. I look forward to speaking with you soon!
